FDA authorizes 24 VELO pouches

WINSTON-SALEM / The FDA has authorized 24 VELO nicotine pouch products, Reynolds American announced on Oct. 30. The orders went to Modoral Brands, the Reynolds company behind VELO, and cover the VELO Mini Pouch and Mini Pouch 2 lines.

All of them are 4 mg. Mini Pouch covers Crema, Lime, Orange Crema and Passion Fruit. Mini Pouch 2 swaps Passion Fruit for Cinnamon.

Why it matters

A marketing order is the FDA’s formal OK to sell a product in the US. Zyn already holds orders for 31 variants. VELO now has an authorized lineup of its own, though only at the low end of the strength range. The FDA is clear that authorization doesn’t mean a product is safe.

What’s next

Reynolds says it’s still working with the FDA on its other pending VELO applications. Higher strengths are the ones to watch.

"Today's Marketing Granted Orders demonstrate the FDA's leadership in accelerating progress toward a Smokeless America."
